This got me thinking about the ways in which identity is like a tool-kit, in a similar way to the management techniques tool-kit. Identity is something that you build up over time, and can add new aspects as needed, in light of new experiences. Particular aspects of identity can be used to manage certain situations, in the same way that different tools are used for different jobs. If a part of your identity no longer feels right, you can replace it with something new, just like you would replace a tool if it was getting old. For example, if you're feeling bored or stressed, and you enjoy creating art, then you could use that part of your identity, and create an artwork. Similarly, if you enjoy running, you could go for a run.
Your identity is a tool-kit that will help get you through the good and bad times in life. It is something you need to take care of, and keep working on. The tool-kit won't maintain itself, that's your job.
What parts of your identity do you use as a tool? How can you build up your identity tool-kit? Do you think using identity as a tool-kit for different situation would be helpful?
